The Little Sorcerer
There once was a child who lived in complete darkness.
They wandered in the deep scary darkness for so long.
They were so lonely.
“I wish I could see,” the child thought. And they kept wandering the Twisted World not knowing they were walking around in circles.
After some time in the deep, scary darkness…the child began to see! But only in shades of glittering silver.
“This world is so dazzling!” thought the small child. “Is it all really this beautiful?”
After some time in the Dazzling Silver, the child got used to the sparkle, and all that was left was a Gray, Twisted World.
The child got lonely, and the world became dark again.
“If only I had a light,” the child thought. “Then, I could know where I am going. I could know what’s around me. I could be safe.”
Suddenly, in the far off distance, the child saw a dim, red light.
“Finally!” The child rushed happily toward the dim, red light, in the Gray, Twisted World. The child was unaware that they had been running in circles the whole time.
As the child walked closer to the dim red light, in the Dazzling Silver, they finally noticed how twisted the world looked.
It wasn’t as scary as in the dark, but the child was still careful not to touch anything. The Dazzling Silver, Twisted World was jagged. Pointed corners could cut you anywhere.
But the child was so close to the dull red light.
The child walked closer.
At the center of the dull, red light was a gigantic, black spider with eight large, round, red eyes. The spider hung there, in a beautiful, red web quietly smiling at the child.
“Hello” greeted the spider, its jaws spreading widely with happiness.
“Hello!” replied the child. Excited to speak for the first time.
“I am looking for a light just like yours to guide me.”
“I see…” began the spider.
“Curious child, I have covered my webs around this world for you. There is no need to search for the bright light, for I do not yet see it.”
“Oh?” The child thought. “Then I must be on my way. Would you like to come with me?”
“Brave Child, I cannot. I must remain here for those lost in the darkness. However…” The Spider tugged at a piece of the web until it broke.
“Take this thread from my web. I feel like it will help you.”
The child thanked the spider, and received the red thread. The thread grew bright for just a second, and then transformed!
…into a compass.
The compass pointed far off into the distance. At the end of the needle, the child could see a new, blue light.
The spider smiled and waved, “I hope you find your light.”
“Thank you!” the child said. They began walking towards the new, blue light…unaware they were going right back where they came from.
On the way to this new, bright blue light, the child noticed how much different the world looked around them. The world wasn’t as twisted as before. And it wasn’t as jagged. The child saw black and white, gray and silver, and red and BLUE.
The world looked… safer, and also quite dazzling,
There were trees, flowers, a river, and a bridge covered in dead vines. There was a silver path beneath their feet. The child knew they were heading in the right direction.
“I suppose I should cross the bridge.” the child thought.
They put their hand on the rail of the bridge. To the child’s surprise, the dead vine sprung to life! The bridge looked much safer to cross.
“My goodness!” a voice shouted from the skies. A mysterious Owl floated down to greet the child.
“Hello!” greeted the child.
The compass began to spin.
“Hoo! I have flown all over this world, but I have never seen anyone, like you!” said the Owl.
“You have a light!” exclaimed the child.
“Hoo Hoo!! This old thing?” the Owl hooted. Within the Owl’s large talons was a dim, blue light.
“Yes! I’ve been looking for a light that is similar, but…”
“Shall I take you over the bridge?” The owl asked.
“The world is quite fantastic over there,” the Owl began.
“Glittering rivers, dazzling oceans, vibrant plants, and so many more animals than this simple domain. Perhaps that is where your light lies?”
The child thought long and hard about what they should do. It felt as though days, weeks, or months passed in the blink of an eye.
The child looked towards the bridge. 'A purple flower was blooming. The child knew their answer.
“Thank you, Owl. But, I don’t think that land is where I belong.”
“A wise decision, my friend. Please, take this small light. I don’t think I can help you on your journey.”
With that, the Owl bowed and released the blue light from its talons.
“Find me if you ever need me!” shouted the Owl from the sapphire sky.
The Owl flew away as the child waved goodbye, and the dim, blue light floated softly to the child.
As the light got closer, it grew brighter… and BRIGHTER.
The light was almost begging to be touched!
When the child’s finger met the bright, blue, floating light, it suddenly transformed!
…into a brilliant, blue map as clear as the sky itself.
With this map from the Owl and the compass from the Spider, the child was sure that they would be able to travel safely. They approached the bridge, this time with confidence.
The child touched the rail again…
Vines spread across the bridge and purple flowers sprang in front of the child’s feet to make a beautiful pathway.
“Oh!” The child exclaimed with a final, important thought. A realization.
The compass and the map turned back into bright lights of red and blue.
“The light was me all along.”
The child transformed into a dazzling, purple light that covered all of the world.
The child was no more.
They became so much more.
“The world isn’t a scary place after all.”
The child was a sorcerer. They saw the dazzling, safe world, but remembered how scary it looked in the darkness. The sorcerer was wise with time and curiosity. The sorcerer knew what to do.
Thet raised their arms to the sapphire sky, and a small tower made of stone rose from the ground next to the bridge.
“I’ll live right here,” proclaimed the sorcerer.
“Close to the Spider who showed me my feelings were like colors. Close to the Owl who taught me the wisdom of asking myself important questions.”
With the sorcerer at home in the tower, it became a dazzling, purple lighthouse guiding all the other lost children of the land.
And so, the little sorcerer lived happily ever after.
